Responsible Travel

Frozen Himalayas have always believed that if you do something and there is no benefit to the community then there is no beauty in that work. Therefore we have been constantly teaming with people and using their knowledge and expertise to shape the future of Ladakh.

We have been creating responsible tourism itineraries for people who want to travel and make a difference. Overview

Due to its home amongst the peaks and plains of the high Himalaya, Ladakh has short pleasant summers and long cold winters. During the six months of severe winter the people are mainly house bound and to ward off the cold and the boredom they engage themselves in various craft. Before the development of modern road infrastructure allowing the import/export of goods and services, Ladakh was a fairly self-sustaining/reliant community where they use to produce most of their own material needs. As trade opened via the silk route Ladakh was for many years involved in the caravan commerce between Punjab and Central Asia, and between Kashmir and Tibet. This allowed the artisans of Ladakh to interact with ideas, products and styles hailing from other regions who bought items such carpets, silks, cloth and utensils which had an influence on the evolution of the Ladakh art idiom. The other major influence on Ladakhi craft was, and still is, Tibetan Buddhist culture. You can see this influence clearly when visiting this region.
