Responsible Travel

Frozen Himalayas have always believed that if you do something and there is no benefit to the community then there is no beauty in that work. Therefore we have been constantly teaming with people and using their knowledge and expertise to shape the future of Ladakh.

We have been creating responsible tourism itineraries for people who want to travel and make a difference. Currently our friends and clients are sponsoring under privileged kids to go to school, building houses for the poor, helping struggling people financially - giving them dignity in their day to day existence, teaching skills to children which they will never learn in govt schools and aiding in the distribution of medicines and medical equipment to the remote places and hospitals. Overview

Gulmarg, Kashmir - where serious skiers show their skills against the snow!
Before the cable car was introduced in Gulmarg, it was very difficult to reach the upper slopes and very few skiers use to visit Gulmarg in the winter. In 1980’s the famous French company called POMA took the contract of designing the world highest gondola. In 1998, the first phase to the Kongdori station (10,050 ft) was opened for tourists.
The ride up to Kangdori is gorgeous as it takes you through the thick Alpine forest. When there is a clear sky you can get a glimpse of one of the most beautiful mountains in the world  - the graceful Nanaga Parbat (26,260 ft) which falls around 80 miles across the valley. The famous British explorer Sir Francis young husband writes in his book Kashmir as it Was.  “The main charm of gulmarg will, however, always remain the beauty of its natural scenery and the views of the great Nanga Parbat”.

Gulmarg due to it’s geographic location receives the highest snowfall in the Himalayas. And due to it’s soft and favorable 45 degree terrain makes it the one of the best skiing and snowboarding destinations in the world. Even after the ski lift took the skiers to the height of 10,050 ft, the professional skiers didn't show any keen interest because the gradient of the slope while descending wasn’t that exciting.

To attract the professional skiers to the virgin slopes of Gulmarg it was necessary to extend the chair lift up to Affarwat peak, so that the skiers could have frequent runs through Affarwat North Bowl and from there, Shepherd’s Bowl and even up to Marry shoulder.
In the year 2004 the second phase of the gondola was completed. Now with the completion of second phase the chair lifts and gondola can take the people up to the little shoulder of Afarwat peak, at the height of 12,992 ft. It is the highest destination in world. With the state of art infrastructure and easy access to the upper slopes, every year skiers from all over the world visit Gulmarg.
