Responsible Travel

Frozen Himalayas have always believed that if you do something and there is no benefit to the community then there is no beauty in that work. Therefore we have been constantly teaming with people and using their knowledge and expertise to shape the future of Ladakh.

We have been creating responsible tourism itineraries for people who want to travel and make a difference. Currently our friends and clients are sponsoring under privileged kids to go to school, building houses for the poor, helping struggling people financially - giving them dignity in their day to day existence, teaching skills to children which they will never learn in govt schools and aiding in the distribution of medicines and medical equipment to the remote places and hospitals. Overview

The Chadar Trek will introduce you to the most desolate and inaccessible parts of Ladakh. During deep winters an old trade route along the frozen Zanskar river offers the only path for any kind of movement into Zanskar as the Pensi La pass shuts down. ‘Chadar’ itself means a veil or blanket of ice. It is an over-whelming voyage through the incredible Zanskar gorge. The beauty of this frozen world is accentuated by rocks beneath the ice sprinkled with snow. The crystal blue skies romance the craggy brown mountains in this surreal landscape. The sun reflects its full glory on the clear white snow after every fresh snowfall. The temperatures stick around -15 ºC to -20 ºC in the daytime and dip to -30 ºC at night. The general unpredictable tough conditions require you to take up the challenge in mind and body. Nights will be spent in the caves, camps or local habitations. Most of the trek is done on frozen water but you can encounter icy rocks and trails. The ice will train your feet to take each step with deliberation. Little villages come our way where we can interact with the hardy local population. This area is also very rich in wildlife. You could spot the ibex, blue sheep and maybe the snow leopard. It is a unique adventure that will make you appreciate the beauty of the wild side of nature. The best time to do this is between mid-Jan and end of February. At Frozen Himalayas we will ensure your safety when you undertake this adventure of a lifetime. Our team of dedicated local porters and guides will try their best to serve you in the given conditions. We provide here a standard itinerary but we can fix it according to your specific needs.
